Abstract:

The director's father, Cao Chongen, is a famous sculpture artist.  Ever since his youth, he has been engaged in producing sculptures of exemplars in industry, agriculture and the military, together with political and cultural figures and Communist leaders.  In order to celebrate the centenary of Deng Xiaoping, he was assigned by a former revolutionary base in Guangxi Province to create a life-sculpture of the Xiaoping as a young man.  This sculpture was subsequently designated a "red classic." Following the path created by his father's sculpture, the son advances on this red journey.  The contrast between the father's artistic ideal and present-day reality unfolds to the fullest.
