Abstract:

"Cricket and the Meaning of Life explores identity, nationalism, race and a sport rich with history. Once the domain of elite colonials, cricket became a way of life throughout the British Commonwealth...except in Canada. When filmmaker and life-long cricket fan Sanjay Talreja immigrates to Toronto from India, he struggles to adapt and fears he must erase his past in order to belong. A surprise encounter changes everything. Talreja meets a passionate coach and a team of young cricketers comprised of second-generation Canadians. We follow this extraordinary team as they embark on a life-changing competition in Trinidad, revealing that the game is crucial to the identity of many new Canadians. Filmed in Toronto, Trinidad, and India, this unique documentary artfully invokes cricket's deep connection to human values. --DVD Container || Winner of the Reel Diversity Ontario Competition
