Abstract:

Also known as Urga, Nikita Mikhalkov's film is set in the vast rolling steppes of inner Mongolia. The young Mongolian shepherd Gombo, his wife Pagma and family live a simple, 19th century existence. Their lives are interrupted a Russian truck driver named Sergei who insinuates himself into their protected lives. Sergei alters the family's traditional perspective when he takes Gombo on a revealing and hilarious trek into the city. Cinematography by Villenn Kaluta. With Badema, Bayaerty, Vladimir Gostukhin and Babushka.
