Abstract:

This series of scenes, beginning immediately after the birth of a baby in New Guinea and before the cord is cut, shows the way the newborn is fed by a wet nurse, bathed, anointed with earth, and carried. Emphasizes the infant's readiness to respond. Also contains scenes from the first and fifth days after birth.
