Abstract:

"Devendra Ale was a teacher and, like most Nepalese teachers, regularly beat the children in his class. In Nepal, teachers regard beating as the only way of maintaining discipline. But it was when Devendra quit teaching to work with CVICT, an organization working to rehabilitate victims of torture from Burma and Nepal, that he had a revelation about the damage he'd inflicted in the children in his classroom. Today he campaigns to end corporal punishment in Nepalese schools. Retracing his story, the film highlights children's rights to be free from all forms of cruel and unnecessary punishment enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
