Abstract:

Ellen Bruno's (Satya: Prayer for the Enemy, Video Reviews, LJ 12/94) film poignantly relates the circumstances under which girls are recruited from villages in Burma to work in the brothels of Thailand. Speaking in their own language with English subtitles, the young women describe why they left their families, their life of debt bondage as prostitutes, the abuse by pimps, clients, and police, and their efforts to survive in order to return home. A moving film that is recommended for special collections.-Trudie A. Root, Juvenile Welfare Board Lib., Pinellas Park, FL
