Abstract:

The daughter of Pakistan's martyred prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, former prime minister Benazir Bhutto has dedicated her life to politics. Despite major successes as the leader of the Pakistan People's Party, her career has been fraught with difficulties. In this program, Benazir Bhutto -- the first female leader of a Muslim country -- discusses her life, including the execution of her father, her exile, and her dismissal from office in 1996 on charges of corruption, which was preceded by the murder of her brother and her husband's detention as an alleged suspect. Describing herself as the victim of a political power struggle, Benazir Bhutto has vowed to continue battling for the good of her country as her powers of survival are tested to the full.
