Abstract:

Bangkok: Rim Nam, Rim Khlong provides viewers with an inside look at the city known as the 'Venice of the Orient.' A young Thai boy, Annop, describes to his friends what his nine-year-old cousin Oat's life is like in Thailand. The video features Oat's middle class neighborhood and her home on one of Bankgok's many canals. Viewers gain an appreciation for the size and scope of the city's canal system, get a glimpse of Oat's school, and witness the important role monks play in the everyday lives of families. Students learn about the similarities and the contrasts to life in North America. Annop answers many questions his friends have about Thailand that will interest all children. Students will begin to understand the rich, complex nature of this ancient culture.
