Abstract:

"Japanese life is a blend of traditional styles and modern mass living. The Japanese emphasize the traditional values of self-discipline, diligence, striving for excellence. All of these values have become mixed with a mass style of life enforced by an urban and industrial setting. The mass media as well as magazines and television play a large role in the life of the Japanese. Commuting rail lines which link commuters in the large cities are prime examples of a way of life that is urban, modern and distinctively Japanese."
